"do one thing every day that scares you."

While surfing through Instagram this morning, I came across an infamous quote by Eleanor Roosevelt: “Do one thing every day that scares you.” It immediately sparked a slew of thoughts. Are we really doing the things that terrify us? In the good sense, that is.
We get up every morning. Some of us go to our 8-5s, come home to our families, and maybe dabble in some extracurricular activities. Some of us stay at home with our children, maintain a household, and our families come home to us. Lather, rinse, and repeat. All of these situations are noble enough, but it is comfortable. It is safe. It is extremely easy to get caught up in the humdrum of life’s little monotonies. Are we really the shining stars we are designed to be, or are we burying those stars in a single shroud of fear? It happens to the best of us.
We all have that one thing [or many things] that excite us. That makes us unique. That would have us cheering ourselves out of bed every morning. That we hear people say “wow, great job” to, but we choose to tune it out or laugh it off; sometimes knowingly, and sometimes subconsciously. It would be that thing that finally gives us our sense of purpose. Sounds cool, huh? Well, if it only stays a dream in your mind, then what? Why neglect the world of your greatness, of your talents, and simply of YOU? If you believe you have something to offer, you are completely right.
More than likely, we truly know what that amazing dream is. It will tug at us. For some of us, we always knew what it was. For some of us, we stumbled across it at a later age. For some of us, we are still on the hunt for it. For the latter: keep on that mission, get in tune with your roots, and you will find your purpose. Sometimes, it will even come and seek you. For those lucky ones, be ready to embrace it when you do make that stumble. Destiny is destiny. Signs are signs. Seize the day. No matter how or at what stage, do not let the mask of fear that it carries impede your progress. Do not let anyone tell you that it is impossible. Do not assume. Try. You will never know until you do.
Train your mind to ask yourself, what if it is possible? Focus on the “why not me?” Take that first step in the thought process. Do not let the masks of fear meddle with your destiny. People are vehemently pursuing their missions every day, so why aren’t you? Why are you so different? Why do you feel that success is not meant for you? Understand that you are just as talented and capable as the next guy. You can do it. It is possible. You have a new and fresh perspective to offer, and you have your own individual slant to throw onto whatever it is you want to pursue. There is room at the top for everyone. Do what you do, and focus on your own mission.
Live the life you were designed to live. The happy life. The prosperous life. The life that has you jumping out of bed every morning. Go write that book, go sing that song, put that invention out there, go back to school, go make that million dollars.... whatever it is, you can.
