Allure published an article on Tyra Banks titled "10 Things You Didn't Know About Tyra Banks and Her New Beauty Line." It is no surprise that she has leapt into this industry, given her historical accomplishments in the fashion industry. This lady knows a thing or two about beauty!
Here is what I have learned from the article:
] She worked for her mother as a makeup and photo lighting assistant at 12. The nature of her mother's business was before and after glam makeovers. This era had a lack of Photoshop, so Tyra learned the real deal in terms of beauty tips and tricks.
] When the 90's entered the "grunge" phase, that is when Tyra entered other venues of entertainment. Fun fact: This is how she ended up on 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.' Even more fun fact: I still love that show and will watch it over anything else that is on. ;-)
] Another fact about her 90's fashion dabblings is that she would do her own makeup at shows. She was good, and other present models would ask her to do their faces.
] When she landed the cover of Sports Illustrated, it was not without headache. Her first photo shoot resulted in completely unusable photos. When she did her photo shoot over again, she was presented with an inexperienced photographer and dreary weather. However, that was the shoot that produced her cover photo.
] This fun factoid needs no elaboration, but... she has never went under the knife for breast implants.
] NO THIGH GAP. However, she offered a tip: "stand with your feet pigeon-toed six inches apart and bend your knees. Crop the photo at midthigh. But do not change your diet."
] Solely for purposes of pursuing the Tyra Beauty endeavor, Tyra went to Harvard Business School. She wanted the tools to lead and grow this line properly. Reassurance for us Beautytainers!
] Tyra Beauty is 100% self-funded. No licensure. She has complete faith in this.
] Tyra Beauty products are all in stick form. Her argument was that it makes makeup application elementary. Which is great news for us learning to contour and the like. Just draw on your face. I have to say that I have had great experiences as a result of the 'stick theory.'
] The Tyra Beauty Oops Liner has a story. Liquid eyeliner intimidates Tyra! As it does most of us. In her words: "It's got that felt marker tip. And you can sharpen the wing tip or correct mistakes on the oops side." Oh, how I wish I had an 'oops side' for most things in life. :)
